La digitalizzazione della società ha inciso profondamente anche sulla governance della Chiesa cattolica. Essa è pienamente consapevole che l’utilizzo degli strumenti digitali può garantire un esercizio più efficace delle proprie funzioni e un incremento della propria autorevolezza anche nel web. Emergono profili evolutivi nell’esercizio dei tria munera: la funzione di insegnare si avvale della realtà online per le attività di evangelizzazione e di predicazione; la funzione di santificare interroga sulla validità dell’amministrazione dei sacramenti nei “luoghi” digitali; la funzione di governare utilizza con frequenza sempre maggiore l’infosfera per l’esercizio della potestà legislativa, esecutiva e giudiziaria. Il ricorso ai new media è ritenuto parte integrante della missione della Chiesa nel terzo millennio, purché essi contribuiscano «al servizio dell’umanità e alla protezione della nostra casa comune invece che per l’esatto opposto». Il contributo intende esaminare la possibilità che i fedeli possano ottenere anche attraverso la dimensione digitale la salvezza della propria anima.

The digitization of society had a profound impact on the governance of the Catholic Church. It is fully aware that the use of digital tools can ensure a more effective exercise of its functions and an increase in its authority, including on the web. Evolutionary profiles are emerging in the exercise of the tria munera: the function of teaching makes use of the online world for evangelization and preaching; the function of sanctifying questions the validity of the administration of the sacraments in digital “places”; the function of governing makes increasing use of the infosphere for the exercise of legislative, executive, and judicial power. The use of new media is considered an integral part of the Church’s mission in the third millennium, provided that they contribute “to the service of humanity and the protection of our common home rather than the exact opposite”. This contribution aims to examine the possibility that the faithful can also obtain salvation for their souls through the digital dimension.
